Our Story

Founded in 2015, "Naveco" is a combination of navigating and economy. We want to bring forth opportunities that not only excite local residents but provide them with opportunities to get involved in the growth of their community.

We believe that New Brunswickers have a right to clean, affordable and reliable electricity. Our investment strategy seeks to maximize both financial returns and social progress. All of our projects have a positive impact on New Brunswick’s environment by reducing COemissions and developing renewable sources of energy.

The Energy Efficiency Excellence Awards recognize the achievements of New Brunswickers who have undertaken efficiency projects throughout the past year or who have demonstrated a long-standing commitment to furthering energy efficiency in New Brunswick. Amit Virmani

ceo & Founder

Amit, winner of the 2020 Top 50 CEO Award, is a second-generation entrepreneur from Fredericton, New Brunswick, building upon a 40-year business history in Fredericton by founding Naveco Power. His first experience in the energy sector was through a position at New Brunswick Power, conducting cost-benefit analysis.

He currently sits on the National Utilities Working Group Committee for the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. This group is made up of some of Canada's leading utilities companies focusing on energy demand, technology and regulatory challenges.

For the company, he is responsible for securing local investment for renewable energy projects that can provide long-term social and economic benefits.

Tarek Abbasi

Operations Director

Tarek moved from Montreal to Fredericton to become Naveco Power’s Operations Director. He graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Engineering, Mining and Mineral Engineering, and has recently completed a Master’s in Engineering Economics.

He is currently developing and implementing business models that show fiscal and monetary benefits to diversifying from emitting energy sources.

Oriana Cordido

Business Development Manager

Oriana Cordido has a Bachelor of Arts, with a double major in International Relations and Economics from St. Thomas University. She is the recipient of the 2020 TD Clean Prosperity Honorary Award. She has experience in the field of social entrepreneurship as she is the Past President and Co-Founder of Enactus UNB, which is an international non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring students to improve the world through entrepreneurial action. She is responsible for creating a sales process for solar energy projects and providing knowledge and awareness about solar energy. Ori is also certified with the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) as a Solar PV Associate.

Sarah Arsenault

Marketing & Communications manager

Sarah Arsenault has a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in Communications and Journalism. She has five years in the Communications field, with a focus in Marketing. She’s responsible for engaging the community about clean energy through the use of promotional material, website, and social media.

Sarah has considerable experience in event planning and community engagement during her time at an established regional non-profit organization. She was involved in the creation, implementation, and completion of a $2.2 million fundraising campaign, which was the largest campaign in the non-profit’s 35-year history.

Mariah Belyea

Project coordinator

Mariah was born and raised in New Brunswick, moving to Fredericton from Darlings Island. She attended St. Francis Xavier University to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in interdisciplinary studies in Aquatic Resources with Public Policy and Social Research.

She then went on to further her education by enrolling in the University of New Brunswick, where she graduated with a Master of Environmental Management. Mariah is also certified with the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) as a Solar PV Associate.

Angel Ward

Indigenous Sustainable Development Associate

Angel is a Mi’gmag woman in business; deeply rooted in her community the Micmacs of Gesgapegiag all while ensuring her values align with sustainable development within First Nations communities. Angel graduated with a BBA from the University of New Brunswick with an Honours in Accounting, concentration in Finance. 

In the past, she was a Board of Director for the Atlantic Aboriginal Financial Officers Association of Canada. She is certified as a Technician in Aboriginal Economic Development through the CANDO and previously sat on the National Board as the Director for Quebec.

gerry Holle

ASSISTANT project coordinator

Gerry is from New Glasgow, Nova Scotia and studied at Acadia University graduating with a Certificate of Applied Sciences and Dalhousie University graduating with a Bachelor of Engineering in Environmental Engineering.  

At Dalhousie he became interested in the renewable energy industry and upon graduation was part of the Clean Leadership Professional Internship Program with Naveco. His goal is to assist communities transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy. Gerry is also certified with the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) as a Solar PV Associate.

Chief Barking Officer

Sadie is a Miniature Australian Shepherd who works mostly from home as the official Chief Barking Officer (CBO.) This is her first job at four years old, and she already loves the attention (but mostly the treats.) When she’s not coming up with clean energy ideas, Sadie likes long walks in the park, baths, and the vacuum cleaner.
