Atlantic Business Magazine is naming Naveco Power Founder and CEO, Amit Virmani, one of Atlantic Canada’s Top 50 CEOs for 2020.
Since founding Naveco Power five years ago, Amit Virmani has led this company to growth and success. Naveco’s story is one of pride for a New Brunswick start up, especially in the clean energy and energy efficiency sectors. Naveco has developed significant industry experience over the last few years as the only New Brunswick based utility-scale renewable energy developer. Naveco has been successful in being awarded a 20MW project to create the only 100% NB owned wind energy project that will provide enough energy to power 9,000 homes. Naveco has successfully completed the energy efficiency retrofit of a 65,000 sq. ft. commercial office building with multiple tenants as well. This growth has all come under the stewardship of Amit Virmani.
Amit has created a vibrant, diverse, co-operative team that has continued to lead Naveco to more success and opportunities. Under his leadership, Naveco has given internships to over 70 students.
What stands as a testament to Amit Virmani’s leadership even more so is the workplace environment he has fostered. He has created a vibrant, diverse, co-operative team that has continued to lead Naveco to more success and opportunities. Under his leadership, Naveco has given internships to over 70 students in co-operation with Future Ready NB, Canada Summer Jobs, and St. Thomas University’s Experiential Learning Office. Naveco has given vital job experience and education on the clean energy sector to each of its interns over its young lifetime.
Amit is a leader that we are proud of. He has led Naveco to great success, growth, and acclaim in a short period of time, in an incredibly competitive sector. He is an example of what entrepreneurship opportunities New Brunswick has to offer. We look forward to what the future holds for Amit and Naveco. We also extend our sincere congratulations to the other excellent recipients of this honour.
– Derek Dunn, Naveco Power Board Member.
Amit recently became a part of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce National Utilities Working Groups. The National Utilities Working Group is comprised of some of Canada’s leading utilities companies and organizations from other sectors. His involvement in this group, plus his team's experience in completing The Sales Accelerator Program through Planet Hatch, allowed Naveco to provide suggestions on how New Brunswick can thrive with renewable energy and energy-efficient opportunities. These opportunities were listed in a recent letter to the Premier and included:
- Provide a $10,000 interest-free renewables/energy efficiency loan to all NB small businesses to help them become more operationally efficient, (operated through ONB). This is especially important for our small businesses in the tourism and hospitality sector.
- Move quickly in the next six months to adopt the model National Building Code (2015) through an Order in Council
- Enable model PACE (Property Assessed Clean Energy) regulation to allow municipalities or third-party administrative entities to facilitate loans to homeowners in order to retrofit their housing.
(FCM is working with all the provinces EXCEPT NB due to the lack of enabling regulation.)
Amit and his team are now working on providing more solar energy opportunities for New Brunswick business owners, and to export their services outside of the province as well.
